10 Surprising Cameos By WWE Wrestlers In Cartoons

7. Capt. Lou Albano & Co. - Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

Super Mario has been a hugely popular video game character ever since Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985. Spotting a great idea when they saw one, TV execs soon looked to capitalise on the plumber's fame with a kids' TV show in 1989. The show blended live action skits with cartoon action a for solid 20 minutes of kid-friendly TV.

When tasked with the unenviable job of casting the iconic Mario character, the show's producer settled on a surprising choice - none other than Captain Lou Albano. Following his mainstream crossover in Cyndi Lauper music videos, as well as a one-off part in Miami Vice, Albano would go on to play Mario in 65 episodes of the show. The Captain would also portray the pint sized plumber in the cartoon segments as well, lending his voice to Nintendo's most famous face.

On either side of the cartoon segments, the show presented the live action versions of the Mario Brothers. With Lou Albano as the main character, the show naturally saw a number of other wrestlers make cameo appearances, with the likes of Sgt Slaughter and Roddy Piper stopping by. Albano even showed up as his wrestling self during one episode, interacting with old pal, Cyndi Lauper, in a nice bit of self promotion for the Captain.
