10 Surprising Cameos By WWE Wrestlers In Cartoons

6. Sgt Slaughter - GI Joe: A Real American Hero

While Hulk Hogan may have spent the entire decade of the '80s claiming to be a "Real American", there's no character more American than GI Joe... as the show's title may suggest. However, it wasn't Hogan that made the cut for GI Joe casting in 1985, but wrestling's resident military man, Sgt Slaughter.

Throughout the 1980s, Sgt Slaughter was one of the most recognisable faces in the entire wrestling industry. A large part of that fame can be attributed to his appearances outside the ring, in particular, his presence on the GI Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon.

Voiced by the real thing, the cartoon version of Sgt Slaughter received a hefty push in 2D, appearing largely unstoppable against the Cobra Commandos. Fending off the Joe's foes with ease, it's no surprise that Sgt Slaughter went on the become the hottest selling toy of Hasbro's GI Joe series.

Interestingly enough, Slaughter would be forced to leave the WWF to close the Hasbro deal, as WWF had an existing partnership with the LGN toy company at the time. As a direct result of the GI Joe toy deal, Slaughter would miss out on the first six WrestleMania events. Slaughter would make his WrestleMania debut in the main event of WrestleMania VII.
