10 Most Surprising WWE Moments Of 2014

7. The Shield Breaks Up

One of the most dominating factions in recent WWE history, the Shield were booked strong since their debut and quickly rose up the card as a force to be reckoned with. In a time when young stars are given terrible gimmicks and constantly kept in the undercard, the Shield were able to bust through the glass ceiling through a combination of solid booking and great in-ring performances. Even though it was fairly common knowledge that the Shield was eventually going to break up and feud, no one was quite sure when it would happen. With Daniel Bryan on the shelf with an injury and Batista departing WWE for movie promotion, WWE needed some new stars and they decided to turn to the Shield. On the June 2 episode of Raw, with Roman Reigns scheduled to face Randy Orton in the main event, Seth Rollins attacked his fellow Shield members and turned heel, aligning himself the with the evil Authority stable and turning into an upper card heel. Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose would also go their separate ways and each seemed primed for a main event run in the very near future.
