10 Tag Team Wrestlers Who Left Their Partner For Better Things
6. Davey Boy Smith
Tag Team: The British Bulldogs The irony of this entry is that The Dynamite Kid was a far more polished, technically skilled wrestler than Davey Boy. Unfortunately for The Kid, various issues would cut short his WWE career, some within his control and others not. A key problem that halted the English wrestlers progression was his height. As talent as he was, in the 80s Vince McMahon didnt see the smaller guys drawing money and therefore his size would always prevent him from going all the way to the top. The Dynamite Kid also suffered a horrendous back injury, at a time when The Bulldogs were current World Tag Team champions; leaving Davey Boy to defend the titles with various stand-in teammates up until his cousin was ready to compete again. That injury would eventually assist in cutting short The Kids career. However, there were several backstage problems that would eventually lead to the pair exiting the WWE; which included fellow wrestler, Jacques Rougeau sucker punching and knocking out four of The Dynamite Kids teeth, due to an intense backstage altercation. The Dynamite Kid would never return to the WWE and instead see his career out in All-Japan Pro Wrestling. Davey Boy was re-signed by the company as an individual competitor two years after the team departed the company. He was re-dubbed the British Bulldog and became very popular, particularly amongst fans in the UK. The WWE even held their popular PPV SummerSlam at Wembley in 1992, which would see Smith close the show with Bret Hart and subsequently win the Intercontinental Championship.
