10 Tag Team Wrestlers Who Held Their Partners Back
5. Kane
Now that Daniel Bryan is retired and fans and analysts alike are looking over his career, one period that stands out is his run with Kane in Team Hell No. While the pairing is fondly remembered for a number of reasons (the tag team titles were made to feel more important, their chemistry was undeniable), the alliance almost hurt Bryan in the long run.
Coming off a World Heavyweight Championship loss at WrestleMania 28, Bryan was getting more and more popular. Still, the company decided to double down on him as a heel, having him rebuke fans' "Yes!" chants and pick a feud with Kane. The foes soon began teaming, and despite the fact that Bryan was still ostensibly a bad guy, the comedy of the pairing only made him more popular.
Nevertheless, it didn't translate into success. Kane and Bryan dominated the tag team division but had little success elsewhere, and their short matches usually featured little more than a few minutes of action from Bryan. In an interview during the run, the former American Dragon even commented that he no longer considered himself a great wrestler.
Thankfully, the fans weren't satisfied with Bryan in Team Hell No. He became so popular that he broke away from Kane, won the WWE Championship, and eventually headlined WrestleMania 30. A groundswell of support propelled Bryan to the main event, but without it, he would have atrophied as Kane's partner.
