10 Terrible Iterations Of Legendary Gimmick Matches
4. Kennel From Hell
Of course, WCW aren’t the only ones to desecrate the legacy
of the cage match. In 1999, WWE actually managed to put a blemish on the
records of both cage and Hell in a Cell encounters, with their
ill-advised Kennel from Hell match between the Big Boss Man and Al Snow.
The match was basically a cage match, with a subsequent Hell in a Cell structure surrounding that aforementioned cage. Oh, and the reason it got its 'Kennel from Hell' moniker? There would be a pack of Rottweilers surrounding the ring, in that corridor between the cell and the cage, providing us with our canine element.
Now, this isn't necessarily a terrible idea, but the dogs didn’t actually offer anything to the match, other than the odd piddle of urine. And even when Snow did fall next to them, they were too busy barking at each other to notice, and so the entire stipulation became a little redundant.
Maybe they’d have been better off replacing the dogs with weapons of some sort, or perhaps even just a species capable of carrying out a wrestling match. Then again, maybe they should have just avoided this idea altogether.
After that woeful debut rendition in 1999 (Vince McMahon apologised to Bossman and Snow afterwards), the company wisely hasn't revisited it.
Yet.
