10 Terrible Managers From WWE's Past

5. Michael Hayes

Sometimes WWE presents a pairing that prompts an open mouthed, tilt of the head shrug of confusion. Michael Hayes managing The Hardy Boys in their early days in WWE is one of these examples. There is no doubt that The Hardys would have benefited from a good manager when they broke in as their in ring skills grossly outweighed their work on the microphone, but there was simply something strange about Hayes slipping into some loose jeans, painting on a body hugging t-shirt, and shouting encouragement at the young men.

Hayes did lead The Hardys to their first Tag Team Championships but something still felt off. It didn't help that more often than not Hayes would end up looking like the weird Uncle that Matt and Jeff called upon when their opponents got too much for them. The Hayes-Hardy connection was short lived and soon Hayes returned to his behind the scenes role as the Hardy's went from strength to strength.

The connection between The Fabulous Freebirds and the young, high flying Hardys was a promising one had WWE not diluted that prospect with the Dok Hendrix character and inconsistent booking at the time.
