10 Terrible Managers From WWE's Past
3. Sapphire
When Dusty Rhodes finally walked through the doors of WWE in 1989 he was an established icon. A virtuosic blend of charisma and experience, Rhodes had to endure the petty wrath of his former competitors when he was ladened with a polka dot infused "common man" gimmick.
Along with some new attire, Dusty was given a "common woman" manager in Sapphire. The two would dance, battle heels, and prove that Dusty had the talent to get over despite whatever cards he was dealt. Sapphire doesn't belong on this list for a lack of talent or attitude problem as it was clear that she was getting better reactions than other more established members of the roster. Rhodes himself spoke about how he eventually grew fond of the former "Princess Dark Cloud", and the feeling was seemingly mutual. When Sapphire was split from Rhodes in a storyline with Ted DiBiase she broke down in tears backstage and lost all interest in wrestling soon after.
Sapphire was simply an unnecessary cheerleader who looked out of her depth for the length of her run in WWE. Rhodes even asked Vince McMahon to release her at first, but Vinnie Mac kept the two dancing until DiBiase found Sapphire's price.
