10 Terrible Wrestling Moments (Saved With One Genius Fix)
2. Goldberg's First WWE Run
The terrible moment:
Goldberg's deathly dull first WWE run, in which 'Da Man' was instead treated as 'Danother Piece of WCW Sh*t' in long, tedius and damaging matches that slashed his aura far more effectively than a car window. This was such a quintessentially WWE development, one so counterproductive and arrogant that it led to the initialism itself becoming an adjective meaning "soul-destroying". Goldberg was a cool, awesome and major drawing attraction because he didn't sell. He was an intense wrecking machine. Remember how funny it was when Hardcore Holly said he was going to break that sh*thead Michael Cole's ass in half? Every spear actually looked like that threat being carried out. So WWE made him sell. This was like if they actually won the MJF bidding war and gave him a mute gimmick.
The genius fix:
Say the quiet part loud, and make use of it. They didn't think Goldberg knew how to work. Instead of trying to make him, why not have Vince say as much on camera, and tell Goldberg that he'd have to start at the bottom if he wanted to make it in WWE - this paving an awesome, jobber-strewn path to Triple H, who woulf sell the threat by showing more ass by the week?
There were enough dog sh*t development clowns to smash through. John Laurinaitis helpfully created a surplus!
