10 Terrible WWE Ultimatums From Vince McMahon
4. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho was nine years into the business and already made a name for himself in WCW when he signed a contract with WWE in 1999. He had already competed across the Canadian, Japanese, Mexican, and US independent circuits and had the experience of competing on a grander stage in WCW. However, Vince McMahon felt the need for him to learn the ropes to the WWE style and found a rather harsh way to motivate Jericho into settling in with his company.
While speaking on Sean Waltman/X-Pac's 12360 Podcast, Chris Jericho talked about how Vince McMahon once threatened to fire him. During one of their regular interactions at events, McMahon told Jericho he was working with X-Pac that night and that he wouldn't have a job if he didn't have a good match.
Jericho recalled how it felt like a guillotine over his head, but after the contest, McMahon acted super cool and told Jericho to run it past X-Pac before every match he would have from then on. Jericho realized that it was a genius move by McMahon to put him in touch with X-Pac since the latter knew how to work WWE-style matches and wanted Jericho to learn from the best and quickly adapt to the company.
