10 Terrible WWE Ultimatums From Vince McMahon
3. The Rock
The Rock is one of the most important and influential figures in WWE history, as his unique blend of charisma, athleticism, and star power was one of the biggest reasons behind WWE's success in the Attitude Era and the company conquering WCW in the Monday Night Wars. However, the journey wasn't smooth for "The People's Champion" as he had to overcome some obstacles during his early days in the business.
The Rock's early babyface run as Rocky Maivia crashed into a dead end when the fans turned on him, which jeopardised his entire career before it even began. Fortunately, the knee injury he sustained in April 1997 became a blessing in disguise, prompting WWE to go into damage control mode to revamp his character.
During a recent interview with Patrick Bet David on the PBD Podcast, The Rock recalled the meeting with Vince McMahon in which they discussed his heel turn. McMahon told him about the heel turn and outright declared that The Rock might not have a future with the company if he couldn't make the character work. The Rock accepted the proposal and asked for a minute with a mic in return and solidified his heel turn with his infamous "I may be a lot of things, but sucks isn't one of them" promo.
