10 Things AEW Are Getting Absolutely Right At The Moment
1. The Slow Build To Omega Vs. Hangman
Kenny Omega and Adam Page are on a collision course to meet in the finals of the AEW World Championship eliminator tournament, as we inch closer and closer to what may well be the most important feud in the early years of the promotion. The safe money says Omega will win the tournament and ultimately dethrone Jon Moxley as champion, sparking a Hangman chase that will end with the crowning of a new babyface superstar.
Comparing AEW and WWE is a dangerous game, but the slow-build of this feud between former Tag Team Champions is a clear indication of the different booking philosophies between the two. If this were WWE, the duo would have likely lost the tag belts back in March, one partner inexplicably turning on the other for no reason other than 'story'. An immediate singles match would have followed, then another and a third, another feud spaffed up the wall in record time.
This isn't WWE, this is AEW. Page and Omega won the tag titles back in January and defended them for nearly eight months, overcoming ideological and personality differences by virtue of being really damn good at professional wrestling. It took a team defined by partnership to beat them, but it wasn't as if the two immediately segued into a feud with each other. The feud hasn't even begun yet.
But begin it will, and AEW may have something truly special on its hands with Hangman vs. Omega.
