10 Things AEW Fans Want After Double Or Nothing
3. Fewer Shots At WWE
Cody Rhodes made it very clear at Double Or Nothing that "subtly" is not a word he knows the meaning of.
Before his match against his brother Dustin, Cody symbolically destroyed a throne of skulls with a sledgehammer. If you don't know what this is referring to, then please stop reading this article now, because I think you might be lost on your way to the Film section.
This ultra-obvious shot at Triple H was kinda cool as a one-off, but this wasn't the only dig AEW took at WWE in Vegas. The Young Bucks' joke about attendance figures, Brandi's Sasha Banks-inspired ring gear, The Bucks' using old Kevin Steen and El Generico moves in their match. All of these add up to one big middle finger towards Vince McMahon.
Whilst this may have been cathartic to some fans (not to mention the wrestlers themselves), AEW need to not fall into the trap of constantly mocking WWE.
Fans want to know that the company are serious about doing their own thing and not just trying to stick it to the McMahons. It's a hole so many other companies have fallen down in the past and it never ends well, not least because it tends to divert attention away from the in-ring product.
These jabs at WWE were fun, but let's hope they aren't a regular occurrence going forward.
