10 Things All Wrestling Fans Thought As Kids

5. Wrestlers Were The Toughest Fighters On The Planet

This entry has absolutely nothing to do with the ill-fated 'Brawl For All' tournament, and instead absolutely everything to do with the fact wrestlers were presented as unstoppable fighting machines. Listening to any combination of announcers, from Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon, to Jim Ross and Jerry 'The King' Lawler, viewers were met with that same message, that these men and women were the toughest soldiers on planet Earth. As a kid, fans ignored the fact that there was hardly any sign of blood, even though these people were punching one another full-force in the face, and that there were few broken necks, even though a move called the Neckbreaker was performed in pretty much every match. Naturally, this is simply a suspension of disbelief, something which must be extended to any form of entertainment, but kids really did believe that wrestlers could beat up anybody. Mike Tyson? World Champion of boxing? Pfft, put him in the ring with The Ultimate Warrior, then let's see how tough he is. All this talk of UFC and Mixed Martial Arts? Well, let's see how the Gracie family fare when going toe-to-toe with Sycho Sid. A quick Powerbomb later, then they wouldn't be feeling so tough!
