The past few years of the WWE 2K series, there have been specialized modes which have served as the "Career" mode of the game. This year, it followed Steve Austin's career. Last year, it focused on specific rivalries. In 2K14, there was the history of Wrestlemania. In 2K13, it followed the Attitude Era. Previous years have had pre-scripted events that followed specific superstars. If you wanted to do a Career Mode, you'd have to choose the superstars the game tells you to. The last truly great Career Mode that you could do with any superstar was back in 2003 with Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain. There were randomly generated cutscenes as you make your way each week from Wrestlemania to Wrestlemania, and you could do it with any wrestler. For WWE 2K17, they should try to re-create the career mode from Here Comes The Pain, or better yet, the branching tree-style career mode of WWF No Mercy on the N64.
