10 Things Cody Rhodes Achieved From The List
1. Kurt Angle (WCPW True Legacy 2016)
Cody Rhodes and Kurt Angle didn't just happen in the now-defunct WCPW/Defiant Wrestling, but, like numerous other entries here, it was their most notable together.
Going down in front of a packed Altrincham Ice Dome in Greater Manchester, Rhodes and Angle delivered a scintillating contest that combined an array of wrestling styles. Taking an age to officially begin, the duo - alongside referee Steve Lynskey - drew big cheers for their cartwheel display, before Angle would target the ankle of the future AEW TNT Champion. It's the match expected of the Olympic gold medallist, and ultimately worked for him, as Rhodes tapped to the Ankle Lock after 12 minutes.
This was the duo's second outing together, though. The first came in August, promoted by Northeast Wrestling at their Wrestling Under the Stars 5 show, with Cody winning that inaugural clash. Their third, contested inside a steel cage, also occurred on a NEW show, happening at the 21st Wrestlefest event. There, in Angle's final indie match before heading back to WWE, Cody Rhodes went over in another 12-minute clash.
Cody and Angle surprised many, your writer included, in their WCPW encounter. Despite being somewhat similar in their in-ring style - they both execute a neat top-rope Moonsault, for example - the chemistry they displayed together was exemplary.
It's quite fitting, then, that it was at the company's highest-attended show at that time.
