Like other entries, Ring of Honor's 2017 Final Battle PPV wasn't the sight of the first clash between Cody Rhodes and Dalton Castle - that honour goes to their Experience show from February of the same year - but it was inarguably their most notable.
It was contested over the company's World Title, you see; a title that Dalton had never been able to capture. He was hardly the stereotypical face of a pro wrestling company, while Cody possesses that natural leadership to take a company to new heights.
Combine that with each man's elaborate entrances, the Final Battle main event instantaneously came with a big fight aura. The match was equally about elevating Dalton Castle as it was furthering the saga between Cody and Kenny Omega that led to their epic ROH bout over WrestleMania 34 weekend.
By the match's end, Dalton's reputation within the Cary Silkin-helmed promotion had been raised. His run as ROH World Champion isn't remembered, really, but for this night, the Hammerstein Ballroom viewed him as a leader.
