Cody Rhodes vs. Trevor Lee is precisely what Cody set out to achieve from this list.
It was never about Cody coming out of WWE, putting on this list of dream matches, and going over every time; it was about him just having a series of superlative encounters, regardless of the outcome. His bout vs. the now-Cameron Grimes is a testament to this.
Going down at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's February 2017 show, there wasn't a moment to breathe in the ten-minute match. That it began with a middle-rope German Suplex told the story perfectly. They weren't messing about here, and thus, a big spot was necessary to kick off the match. The remainder of the match flowed in a similar fashion, with Cody's springboard dive to ringside and Trevor's Cave In being neat highlights.
Let down only by an absolute shambles of a Disaster Kick from Cody - from the angle, Cody missed by a clear mile, with his ankle twisting awkwardly mid-flight - the match was a success. It came at the peak of Trevor's success in PWG, coming immediately after wins over Dalton Castle, ACH, and Kamaitachi - the future Hiromu Takahashi.
It was one of only three, often forgotten matches Cody ever had in PWG, yet it proved crucial for the career of Trevor Lee.
