10 Things Cody Rhodes Achieved From The List
5. Chris Hero (EVOLVE 67)
Chris Hero holds a significant record with regards to Cody Rhodes' post-WWE life, being just the second opponent Cody had after leaving the company. Their bout went down on 20 August at EVOLVE 67, with Hero going over the former Stardust in a 20-minute bout. The prior day, Cody had defeated Zack Sabre Jr. in his return to in-ring competition.
The match had just one major flaw; Cody's transition from a sports entertainer to a professional wrestler.
If you recall, Cody never once wrestled on the independent circuit. He started his career in WWE's then-developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling. You needn't be told the drastically different style between WWE and the indies, even back then, and this created a slight issue for Rhodes. He tried to be too indie, for lack of a better term; he was hitting Moonsaults and taking Short Piledrivers just because he was able to. They added little to the overall arc of the match, though.
Nonetheless, Chris Hero performed exquisitely against Cody, delivering the sort of performance that would become the norm for Cody's run on the indies. He worked magic vs. the 'Prince of Pro Wrestling', proving within the first five minutes why he was on Cody's hitlist, if you will.
