10 Things You Don’t Know About WWE In 1995

7. WWF Changed A Match Because It Sucked, And Told Us So!

Many people remember the Ladder Match rematch between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon at Summerslam 1995 for the Intercontinental Title. What few people may remember though is that it wasn€™t the original match booked for Shawn at Summerslam. Originally, Shawn was supposed to defend the title against Psycho Sid, who months earlier had turned on Shawn and powerbombed him three times, leading to Shawn€™s babyface turn. Hbk V Sid Storyline wise, this match made sense because it was months in the making. Unfortunately, WWF was going through a lull in business and realized that with a main event of Diesel defending the WWF Championship against King Mabel, nobody would be buying the second-biggest PPV of the year. So Gorilla Monsoon went on television and outwardly told the audience that he was cancelling the Shawn/Sid match because nobody wanted to see it! Instead, he booked Shawn and Razor, two babyfaces who had little-to-no interaction for nearly a year, simply because that€™s what the fans wanted to see! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPoHFGB94OE Shawn and Sid ended up having their IC title match on a random Raw in September of that year, and it was an unmemorable as the WWF brass feared it would be. These days, WWE openly tells the fans they try to make them happy, but back in 1995, this was pretty revolutionary.
