10 Things You Don’t Know About WWE In 1996

9. Who Was Who?

As the WWF was beginning to shed its use of ridiculous gimmicky characters in the mid-to-late 90s, some remnants still made it to the surface in 1996. One such gimmick was Who, a masked wrestler who served no real purpose other than to allow the announcers to go into their worst Abbott & Costello routine. But who exactly was Who? Surprise! It was Jim €œThe Anvil€ Neidhart. Neidhart hadn€™t been seen on television since the end of 1994 when he stopped teaming with Owen Hart. On the July 6 episode of Superstars, Who debuted in a loss against Savio Vega. Who never won a match on television. Why the WWF decided not to use Neidhart as himself, a successful tag team wrestler who partnered with one of the greatest wrestlers the company ever had, is the bigger mystery. Neidhart only wrestled one match in 1996 as The Anvil, teaming with Psycho Sid (as a replacement for Ahmed Johnson) against his brothers-in-law Owen Hart and The British Bulldog at a house show in the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island.
