10 Things You Don’t Know About WWE In 1996

7. Ray Rougeau Fought Owen Hart In A Boxing Match

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdcv5m_ray-rougeau-vs-owen-hart-boxing-mat_sport The WWF has had a history of doing their own angles during house shows in Montreal. This house show-only angle might have been the weirdest of them all. On August 2, 1996, at the newly opened Molson Centre, Ray Rougeau faced Owen Hart in a boxing match. Owen had famous Canadian boxer George Chuvalo in his corner for the fight. Chuvalo was famous in Canada for his two fights against Muhammad Ali. In the fight with Rougeau, Owen was knocked out in the fourth round. It€™s unclear whether the fight was rigged or legit, a-la the Brawl for All. After the fight, Owen got in an argument with Chuvalo and was knocked out again. The fight was extremely random in that Rougeau hadn€™t been active in the WWF in years, but apparently the Rougeaus are gods in Montreal. Wrestling and boxing have always had a friendly relationship with each other (not nearly as tenuous as wrestling and mixed martial arts these days), so it was no surprise that a major wrestler in the company at the time like Owen would participate in a boxing match at a house show.
