10 Things You Don't Know About WWE In 1997

1. Vince McMahon Offered The Ultimate Warrior A 5-Year Contract In December 1997

Warrior Dec1997 Offer As discovered earlier this year based off of content relating to lawsuits between Warrior and the WWE, Vince McMahon made an offer to the Warrior in December 1997, in secret, for a 5-year contract with a $750,000 base salary before royalties. In the letter, Vince states the following: €œJim (Hellwig), this deal is far more lucrative to you then (sic) our last agreement of 1996, and obviously, far more long term. I look forward to building the resurgence of the Ultimate Warrior again. Vince.€ This came one month after one of Vince€™s two top guys, Bret Hart, left the company, so obviously Vince was desperate for star-power. And even though Vince would claim in the Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD that Warrior was damn-near impossible to work with and he fired Warrior on three different occasions, Vince still recognized just how important Warrior was to the business by offering him this deal.
