10 Things You Don’t Know About WWE In 1998

6. Yokozuna Was Going to Come Back If He Lost Weight

Yokozuna, the most dominant WWF Champion of the early 90s, was last seen in 1996 losing to Steve Austin in the Summerslam Free For All. Shortly after that, Vince McMahon put him on indefinite leave to try and lose weight, because by the time of his final WWF match, Yoko had ballooned to well over 600 pounds. The goal was always to bring Yoko back, both in 1997 and in 1998. Yoko would try and diet to lose weight, but those efforts would be for naught. State athletic commissions wouldn€™t allow him to wrestle at his weight. Everybody really liked Yoko (real name Rodney Anoa€™i) backstage and was hoping that he would lose the weight and come back for his own health. Sadly, it didn€™t come to pass, and Yoko passed away in 2000.
