6. Shocking Heel/Face Turns
There is perhaps no moment in WWE history that caused fans' heads to explode quite like the night Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel to join forces with his arch enemy, Vince McMahon. Not only did it come out of nowhere, but it positioned the company's top rivalry on the same side of the battlefield, a move surely no one believed could work. But it did. The Attitude Era had more of these shocking turns than any other time in the company's history. Triple H turning on DX to join The Corporation, The Rock turning from The People's Champion to The Corporate Champion, Stephanie McMahon turning on her father...these were major moments. And they were spread out enough to leave a lasting impact. (Whereas, say, WCW threw another babyface into the heel pool every other episode.) Nowadays, you're either a heel or you're a face. With the exception of CM Punk turning heel (against The Rock, nonetheless), there hasn't been a notable allegiance change in ages. So for the love of God, make John Cena a bad guy already! ...Not that anyone would actually be "surprised" by it anymore. But still.
