Kurt Angle wasn't shy about professing his desire to return to WWE over the last couple of years. Once his contract with TNA expired in early 2016, that stance only became more vocal. With growing rumours and worldwide desire to see it happen, WWE made the right call and welcomed the Olympic hero back with open arms as part of the 2017 Hall of Fame.

While Angle's return to WWE seemed more like an eventuality than a possibility, his subsequent revival as a weekly TV character was a welcome surprise. However, the same cannot be said for the creative direction the company has taken with the legendary 'Wrestling Machine' since.

With an initially intriguing introduction, the "Angle secret" storyline was an interesting hook on Raw throughout the summer. Sadly, the eventual payoff of Jason Jordan as his "illegitimate son" was perplexing at best.

It's difficult to understand what kind of reception WWE were hoping for with the reveal. Most fans are well aware that Kurt and Jason are not related and the presentation of them as such seems more insulting than entertaining. Nevertheless, it's certainly got people talking.

Whether it helps elevate Jordan as intended remains to be seen; however, the inclusion of Angle in the scenario seems like a monumental waste of his talents and stature.
