10 Things John Cena Haters Should Stop Complaining About

7. Formulaic Promos

One of the key reasons for John Cena's ascension to the top of WWE was his skill on the microphone. His rap segments helped to get him over with the fans in the early Noughties and he could more than hold his own cutting promos on the main event scene. However, the shine came off him for many fans after he had spent several years at the top. The perception amongst many is that Cena cuts a virtually identical promo every time he steps up to the mic. It's certainly true that his general themes are always the same, which is virtually unavoidable when they're plastered all over his body in neon writing. After ten years at the top, it's frankly remarkable that John Cena can find anything new to say in his promos. This year, Cena has worked with two of the best talkers in the company in the shape of Bray Wyatt and Paul Heyman. In both cases, Cena was able to hold his own in the face of the charismatic heels, with his defiance in the face of Heyman and his client, Brock Lesnar, particularly impressive. Cena's promos are always going to cover familiar story beats, but he is able to inject more than enough creativity into his mic work. When he is at his most passionate, he's one of the most believable talkers in the company.
