Kenny Omega won the G1 Climax 26 tournament this summer in an event that brought a great deal of Western attention to the New Japan product. This was due not only to the fact that Kenny was the first gaijin wrestler to capture the prestigious trophy, but also that he was amongst the best of a three-week tour of outstanding wrestling performances.

With all the buzz that NJPW has created in the US, Canada and the UK, Kenny Omega may or may not go into the G1 Climax 27 as IWGP Heavyweight Champion, but either way he will go in as the defending G1 winner. The tournament will start with dates in California which will kick-start what will like likely be the most followed G1 in history. This is a boat Kenny simply cannot miss, and barring injury he will undoubtedly be keen to lead New Japan even further into the international wrestling market.
