It's well-known among fans who follow the industry closely that both JBL and his partner in the APA were considered "enforcers" among the WWE locker room. There are two specific onscreen incidents that stand out where the APA took things a little beyond the usual working environment. The first was a tag match with Public Enemy during their blink-and-you'll-miss-it tenure in WWE back in 1999. Right before the two teams were set to hit the ring for a match, Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge told the APA they wouldn't do the finish of the APA putting them through a table. JBL and Simmons asked management what they should do and were told to "make sure you do the finish" so the APA basically went out to the ring and kicked the everloving sh*t out of Public Enemy, put them through the table and sending them packing after just a few weeks. The other beatdown is question was delivered to the invading WCW guys in 2001, specifically Shawn O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo, but JBL downplays this one and says there was no animosity, they were just working stiff as usual. Anyone who saw it would beg to differ, as they really laid it in to the two inexperienced newcomers, which was likely just a welcoming present.
