10 Things Missing From WWE Today

4. Old School Heels

The Revival

The Revival have been a revelation in NXT, and whilst a lot of this can be put down to their in-ring abilities, a big chunk of credit also needs to go to their booking and characters. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder are simply as old school as heels get, not interested in making fans happy or doing anything other than winning, by any means necessary.

This is what WWE's main roster is sorely lacking. The vast majority of major heels on the roster are only heels in perceived alignment. A lot of this must go down to the audience and the way it cheers what it is supposed to jeer, but then again it is difficult to boo a character like Rusev or Kevin Owens. They are clearly fighting for commendable reasons.

Modern entertainment has been infected by Vince Russo's shades of grey, the need for every character to have both good and bad sides. Sure, this brings our fiction closer to fact but then again it is fiction; why can't our bad guys simply be bad guys?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
