10 Things NXT Did Specifically To Beat AEW
5. Using The United Kingdom Champion
Another, perhaps unexpected misstep from AEW has surrounded their launch in the United Kingdom, with some incredibly confusing and conflicting reports over how their UK fans will get to view the show. Specifically, they won't. At least not live.
They couldn't possibly have anticipated this, as all the early signs looked like the show would air on ITV in some capacity and, if anything, make it more accessible than NXT in the UK, where we have until 24 hours after the broadcast to catch up to it on the Network. AEW should have been streets ahead in this market but, as it stands, they're behind.
WALTER's inclusion in the opening two shows (and specifically the main event of the second) was designed to counteract that and, yes, I know he's Austrian. The reigning UK Champion is placed here to get some viewers over from NXT UK, and hopefully, funnel some back to it while he's there. If nothing else it shows that Britain is a part of this shared universe storytelling, which gives us lot over the pond a reason to tune in.
