Since winning the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz back in January, Dean Ambrose has defended the belt all of once, in The Miz’s contractual lumberjack rematch. Since then, the title seems to have dwindled a little, and while Ambrose’s feud with Corbin has been decent, it still feels like there’s something ‘off’ about Dean whenever he gets gold around his waist.

Corbin, on the other hand, has been on a roll of late, having escaped some miserable pre-show feuds in mid-2016 to become one of Smackdown LIVE’s breakout stars. His match against John Cena proved he could hold his own against the company’s top stars, while his excellent Triple Threat contest against AJ Styles and Dolph Ziggler was one of WWE’s best televised matches of the entire year.

With that in mind, Baron Corbin is the right choice to usurp Ambrose as Intercontinental Champion. We don’t need to see another humdrum Ziggler/Ambrose feud, and there are few heel contenders outside of The Miz who could believably challenge for the belt. Couple this with the fact that a big Mania win for Corbin would be a fantastic way to bookend his Battle Royal win the previous year, and a Corbin victory just makes sense.
