You could argue that Lesnar beating Goldberg only serves to diminish or somehow undo the foundations laid in place by the feud, but as a counterpoint: what happens if Goldberg wins?

If a fifty year old man who hadn’t wrestled for over a decade before last year beats one of the most legitimately tough combat athletes in the world at WrestleMania, it’ll do a lot worse than sour a feud; it’ll render WWE’s entire fiction a joke. Not only that, it’ll establish an environment wherein Goldberg is seen as completely unbeatable, and RAW’s top title becomes the paperweight for somebody who has wrestled a sum total of five minutes since returning to WWE.

Lesnar might be a part-timer, but at least he’s likely to wrestle higher quality matches, and far more often than Goldberg. Neither outcome is ideal, but having a seasoned and believable worker like Lesnar at the top of the company is a damn sight more appealing than someone we’re likely to see twice a month for three minutes a time.
