10 Things That Must Happen Before WrestleMania 34

6. The McMahons Step Away

WWE’s over-reliance on the McMahon family is a well-worn complaint. Vince owns the company, and if he wants to keep his children on television, that’s exactly what he’s going to do. They’re always among WWE’s most consistently pushed acts when they’re around, but for many fans, the McMahons overstayed their welcome a long time ago, and their presence always peaks around WrestleMania season.

Stephanie has become a loathsome character on Raw, where she routinely savages and emasculates active roster members without fear of retaliation. Shane, meanwhile, is fresh-off a strong match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania, but unless he’s working with someone like AJ (who can carry him to a great bout), nobody needs to see him compete again anytime soon.

With Steph set to take an absence from television following a big table bump at Mania, it’s time the McMahons considered scaling back their involvement. Few people want to see them hogging airtime, and while it’s unlikely they’ll step away entirely, they’re only holding the product back at this point. Wishful thinking perhaps, but wrestler vs. authority stories are beyond played-out in 2017, and with the McMahons around, they’re an inevitability.
