10 Things That Nearly Happened At WWE Survivor Series

7. Rick Rude Replaced Due To Leaving WWE Prior To Survivor Series 1990

A four on four elimination tag match was set for the 1990 Survivor Series with Hulk Hogan teaming up with Jim Duggan, Big Boss Man and Tugboat against Earthquake, Dino Bravo, The Barbarian and "Ravishing" Rick Rude. At the time, Hogan's main feud was with Earthquake while Boss Man was in a program with Rude. Rude was a cocky heel that had no problem saying or doing anything to upset whoever his main rival was. He was great in the role and had consistently awesome matches to boot. He probably should have been a WWE Champion at some point. Shortly after the match was announced, WWE President Jack Tunney suspended Rude for repeatedly insulting the mother of the Big Boss Man. I can remember at the time thinking that it was such a silly thing to suspend a guy over, but it was 25 years ago when we couldn't just jump on the internet to find out what had really happened. As it transpired, Rude left WWE due to a contract dispute. About a year later, he was back in WCW while WWE fans continued to wonder why a guy was suspended for so long for insulting the mother of another wrestler!
