10 Things That Nearly Happened At WWE Survivor Series

4. Jerry Lawler Replaced By Shawn Michaels In 1993 Due To Rape Allegations

The feud between Jerry Lawler and Bret Hart was supposed to lead to The Hitman teaming with his brothers Owen, Bruce & Keith against The King and three of his "Knights" that were masked wrestlers. Lawler was replaced by Shawn Michaels, however, which led to HBK teaming up with the masked Knights. It was pretty ridiculous to have Michaels out there leading the knights, but WWE was forced into it. What happened with Lawler is that he was accused of raping and sodomizing a 15-year-old girl. Since Lawler was indicted for it, WWE felt it was serious enough to take him off television. Before the case could go any further, the girl admitted that she made up the whole thing and Lawler was free to go. One of the theories about what really happened is that Lawler didn't pay some wrestlers that worked for him in the Memphis territory and they ended up convincing a girl to make these accusations. Since the girl admitted that the whole thing was a lie, that theory could very well be true, although it's largely rumour and speculation. If you're wondering, the Knights were Barry Horowitz, Greg Valentine and Jeff Gaylord wrestling in masks. It was also the match that started the awesome Owen Hart heel turn against brother Bret.
