10 Things That Only Happen in Pro Wrestling

Wrestling is a physical business, and with bodies flying around all over the place, being struck by an errant limb accidentally is an occupational hazard when your job is a wrestling referee. These things can happen in most sports. In football, the ball can often hit the referee after ricocheting off or being miskicked by a player. In these instances, the match will simply continue as if nothing has happened. However, just as we have concluded that all wrestlers have terrible hearing, referees are similarly affected by a universal physical impairment. None of them have any kind of resiliency whatsoever, and are seemingly made of pipe cleaners.

There is no greater example of this than the legendary referee Earl Hebner. While he’s not the largest man in the world by any stretch of the imagination, and the matches that he officiates do often feature larger than average human beings, poor Earl can be knocked unconscious through simply being squashed in the corner. Despite his head not being struck at all, Earl, and many other referees, can suffer a complete shutdown of their bodies upon a minor impact.
