The outcome of a wrestling match can have far-reaching repercussions. Most commonly, it can result in a new champion being crowned, or a new era of wrestling history being ushered in. However, sometimes, it can have even more powerful consequences. The greatest example of this was seen in 2005, when Eddie Guerrero, in his final feud before his untimely death, claimed that he was actually the biological father of Hispanic rival Rey Mysterio’s son Dominick. A custody battle over Dominick ensued between Eddie and Rey.

Custody battles are sadly commonplace when couples divorce or separate and there are children involved, and the normal route is to go through the courts. A judge will listen to both parties expressing why they are best suited for the child to live with them. Depending on the child’s age, the child may be spoken with to assess his or her preferences. It’s a drawn out and traumatic experience for all involved.

So you have to give credit to Eddie and Rey, who decided to not put poor Dominick through such an ordeal. Why go through all the hassle of the legal system when you can simply resolve the issue with a pay-per-view ladder match instead? At SummerSlam 2005, legal documents were placed in a briefcase, and the briefcase was left hanging from the ceiling 15-feet up in the air. Rey Mysterio successfully climbed the ladder and Dominick continued to live with his father. Phew.
