In most workplaces in the developed world, Health & Safety is of paramount importance. Employers don’t want accidents taking place where they are deemed to be found responsible or negligent. It could cost thousands in compensation if a legal case was brought against them. Inspections take place regularly, where anything that could even have a remote chance of causing an accident is taken care of. Trailing electric cables on the floor are a trip hazard. Heavy items stored on high shelves could fall and injure someone. But in wrestling, Health & Safety goes out of the window.

Several hours before a wrestling show takes place, the ring has to be set up, ready for action. Various tools are required for the job, such as spanners, hammers, etc., and these are then usually put away in a bag, either in the ring van or sometimes under the ring itself, out of sight of the fans. But then something mysterious and unexplained happens: a cornucopia of assorted weaponry somehow finds its way underneath the ring, after the ring crew have finished setting it up. Steel folding chairs are the most commonly found item, but Triple H often manages to sneak his trusty sledgehammer underneath the ring  in the golden period between the ring crew finishing setting up and the doors opening to the paying public. It’s a Health & Safety nightmare that you only find in professional wrestling.
