Previously, WWE learned hard on calendar fillers like Elimination Chamber, MITB, HIAC, Extreme Rules and other themed pay-per-views to pad the schedule. That, in turn, made company creative lazy. It also fooled them into believing fans would settle for big gimmicks over meaningfully-crafted feuds and stories.

To his credit, Trips has started to move away from that format (the cherished Royal Rumble aside). Sure, he added the WarGames carrot to Survivor Series, but there's no proof yet that this will be annual thing. He'd need more time in the job for that to shake out, but Hunter might not get it.

Vince could return and re-establish HIAC as a standalone PPV instead of the ultra-violent showpiece feud-ender it should be. McMahon consistently showed that he didn't care for the longevity of those gimmick bouts - he only cared about what was next, and moving on to each coming WWE Network special like fan interest should be taken for granted.

Fingers crossed he follows his son-in-law's lead on this one.
