10 Things That Would Happen If WWE Buys TNA
6. History Will Finally Be Acknowledged
WWE have existed in their own little bubble since the Invasion ended, but their insularity is finally wearing-off. Where once the company wouldn’t even mention a competitor on-air, it seems WWE can’t go a week without mentioning AJ Styles’ success in New Japan or Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens’ background on the indie scene. The use of talent from across the globe in the Cruiserweight Classic proves it, and for the first time in years, it feels like WWE are finally in-tune with the world around them.
One elephant remains in the room, however: TNA. This is the company that made Styles, Samoa Joe, and Bobby Roode the wrestlers they are today, but WWE refuse to even acknowledge the company’s existence. In WWE’s eyes, TNA are still a competitor, and while these wrestlers’ success in TNA is sometimes hinted at it, it’s never truly recognised.
That will change if McMahon buys the company. Trumpeting a wrestler’s past success is an easy way to make them feel like a big deal early-on, but it’s difficult without listing exact accomplishments. Acquiring the TNA brand will finally allow Roode & co. to dive into their past when they make it to the main roster, and eliminate the awkward avoidance that creeps-in whenever their legacies are discussed on WWE TV.
