10 Things That Would Happen If WWE Buys TNA
3. Revisionist History Will Kick-In
WWE aren’t always kind to their competitors’ legacies. While ECW is often remembered through rose-tinted specs, other companies aren’t treated with the same reverence.
WCW, for example, led the Monday Night Wars for a long period of time, and were once considered the most important wrestling promotion on the planet. McMahon acquired the company in 2001 to effectively eliminate his only real competition, and kick-off one of the biggest missed opportunities in wrestling history: the Invasion angle.
Since that story’s conclusion, WWE have acted as though WCW was always a horrible, misdirected company who never did any good. McMahon wants you to remember the dark days of Judy Bagwell and David Arquette rather than Hulk Hogan’s heel turn or the Hall/Nash invasion, and while understable, this is pure revisionist history.
TNA can expect the same treatment. If purchased, TNA won’t be remembered as the company that let AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels produce some of the most exciting wrestling on the planet, but for the Victory Road 2011 incident, Aces & Eights, and the horrors of Jenna Morasca vs. Sharmell.
