10 Things TNA Wants You To Forget About Matt And Jeff Hardy

8. Matt Vacates The Title

TNA likes to make things unnecessarily complicated at times.

Drew Galloway was the number one contender for the Heavyweight Title, setting up Galloway vs. EC III at Bound for Glory. But five days before TNA’s biggest show of the year, they added Matt Hardy to the main event after he won a tag match against Rockstar Spud and Tyrus. Imagine WWE doing something like that with the Mania's marquee match just days before it went down.

Well, Matt won the match, and for the first time in his career he held a major company’s World Title (let’s ignore his ECW run). It should have been a great, feel good moment for him. And then, it was taken away. EC III filed an injunction due to referee Jeff Hardy’s actions in the match, and Matt was unable to appear on Impact for a month. Instead of waiting 30 days, he vacated the belt so TNA could have a champion, which then set off a THREE MONTH long tournament.

The tournament had a complicated point based system, and we had no idea when it was going to end. It dragged on and on, because in real life TNA started looking for a new television home and was just filling time until their Destination America deal expired.

Matt vacating the title immediately ruined his journey to the top story, and set up three of the saddest months in the company’s troubled history.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
