10 Things TNA Wants You To Forget About Matt And Jeff Hardy

7. Hearing Jeff's Thoughts

Wrestling companies are increasingly taking bold risks when it comes to storytelling these days. Lucha Underground paved the way for heavily produced backstage segments. TNA has mimicked that style with Final Deletion, and WWE has now experimented with The Wyatt Family. However, TNA tried something a few years ago that was out of the box, which was an embarrassing flop.

Suddenly, out of nowhere in 2012, we could hear Jeff Hardy’s thoughts. This only happened in backstage segments, though, because had we heard them in the ring...well, that would just have been ridiculous!

Jeff would be lamenting about something in the Impact Zone, talking to a wrestler like Austin Aries, then when Austin would leave the room, the camera would zoom in on Jeff and he’d hit us with what was on his mind. You’d expect him to be thinking about pancakes, or face paint and...well, the thoughts actually weren’t much deeper than that. They tried to make them somewhat poetic, but it was a weird concept that was soon dropped.

The best part of this nonsense was when Aries broke the 4th wall even further, asking why we could hear Jeff’s thoughts on TV. Good question.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
