4. The Finish Was The Same As Survivor Series 1997

The tournament final was Mankind battling The Rock with the WWE Title on the line. Neither man had been WWE Champion before and they hadn't wrestled each other much before, either, so it was a fresh matchup. With Vince and Shane McMahon lurking at ringside, it also suggested that something fishy might be going on. It looked like Mankind was going to win as he applied the Mandible Claw, but The Rock fought out with a Rock Bottom for two. Rock raised the People's eyebrow towards Vince, applied the Sharpshooter and Vince called for the bell. It was a total shock as The Rock was announced as the new World Wrestling Federation champion. Did the finish look familiar? It was the exact same thing that happened a year earlier at Survivor Series with Bret Hart getting screwed by Vince in his match with Shawn Michaels. The difference is that the 97 finish was legitimate with Bret not knowing what was going to happen while this one was just a way to upset the fans even more by doing that ending again. Jim Ross was great on commentary as he was yelling about they had screwed us all. I can remember watching this live and thinking how cool it was. People really didn't see it coming and it was brilliant that they were able to pull it off.
