Admittedly, there are a lot of potential candidates for WWE’s Biggest Ever Creative Mistakes - hello there, Dean Ambrose’s heel turn - but watching Cody and Dustin reconcile in the ring after one of the most brutal singles matches in recent wrestling history really hammered home what this feud could always have been.

Let’s recap. Cody adopted the Stardust gimmick, went a bit strange, turned on his brother, got rolled up by him at Fastlane and… that was it. No return match at WrestleMania the next month, no real conclusion to the story, just… a roll-up… at Fastlane.

The sheer emotional weight of their Double or Nothing match, with the callbacks to their respective careers, their tag team run and their father made for one of the most compelling contests seen in an age. The sheer gut-wrenching volume of blood will divide opinion, but Cody’s voice breaking as he tells the world just how much he needs “his older brother” will be remembered for years.

WWE had this feud in the palm of their hands and gave it 9 minutes on a dreadful PPV.
