'Hitman' critics can say whatever they like about the man, but nobody can claim that Bret Hart doesn't love pro wrestling. He viewed it as an art form, and he was always dedicated to putting on the best matches he possibly could. That's why Bret demanded to know why the WWF hadn't signed Steve Austin yet in early-1995.

The locker room general straight-up asked Vince McMahon what was going on.

Austin smiled upon hearing Bret recall a conversation he had with Vince about the recently-fired WCW man who was tearing it up in ECW. To Hart, it didn't make much sense that McMahon would overlook someone with Steve's skill set. The WWF's premier workhorse wanted Austin on the roster, and soon.

It was still a slight surprise for Bret that things happened so quickly. One week, he was whinging about an Austin-less locker room. The next, he dropped off his bags in the arena and was pleased to see Steve extending the hand of friendship.
