Pretty much every talking head on 'Dark Side' talked about how much Candido loved wrestling. He was in college back home in New Jersey when the prospect of working some shots for Jim Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling came up. The promoter was in no mood to play pretend.

He told the young wrestler SMW simply couldn't pay enough to justify him moving from New Jersey to Tennessee. That's when Cornette saw Tammy and came up with the idea of turning her into Chris' manager - then, with both earning, they'd be able to afford the move.

Tammy wasn't into it at first, because she'd originally wanted to become a plastic surgeon, but she agreed to get involved if it helped her boyfriend. Candido was thrilled, but his family didn't see things the same way and didn't love the thought of him dropping out of school.

Peggy Rae was very upfront about that when interviewed by VICE.
