Candido's mother didn't bullsh*t the producers from VICE. Straight up, she admits she'd never have allowed Chris to become a pro wrestler. So, how did he fall into the business? Well, Candido started training without Peggy's knowledge. He was obsessed with the industry, and found a way.

It was a rough road at first due to poor payoffs and zero guarantees of ever making it to a higher level. That was Peggy's core issue with wrestling - it didn't give her boy stability, which is what he had as a college student. Something about wrestling just seemed...scary to his family.

Chris went for it anyway.

This segment of 'Dark Side' put a ton of emphasis on Chris's passion for the biz. He was willing to keep things quiet around his mother, which must've been torture when he wanted to explode with details about his training and matches. Things would eventually change for Peggy though.
