Borne was, however, enjoying the money flowing in from his WWF success.

He and Maria Straley (his first wife between 1991-1993) were in the process of building a "million dollar home" when Matt was scrapped by the WWF for drug problems in '93. Apparently, Borne had kitted the house out with lavish items, including a bathtub engraved with 18-carat gold letters spelling out Doink.

That, ladies and gents, is wild. It's also not the kind of thing you'd expect from somebody who only played a gimmick for a year or so. Doink made that big of an impression on Borne's life, but his marriage to Maria was spinning away from him. It got physical, and that pushed Straley away.

She says the breaking point came when Matt started pinging some lit cigarettes at her in their living room. Then, he threw her to the ground whilst she was still holding her daughter. Terrified, Maria left Borne after that. There was no going back.
